Death by chicken manure: hygiene scandal shakes a Carinthian restaurant!
In a shocking incident in Carinthia, in which a 63-year-old man died of a heavy intestinal infection, a couple is now charged with the now closed restaurant. According to the Kleine Zeitung, the contaminated meat was not the direct cause of the infection, but catastrophic hygienic conditions in the company. The man who suffered from the Salmonella infection is the only confirmed death in connection with this incident in which almost 30 illnesses were recorded in the previous year.
The investigation showed that the contaminated skewers were loaded with salmonella, but were fried at a high temperature of over 70 degrees, which usually kills the bacteria. Surprisingly, it turned out that a dirty scrap of plaster that was contaminated with salmonella was used again after roasting. This scraped the dangerous bacteria transferred to the victim's already cooked meat. The public prosecutor emphasizes that these unsanitary practices, which prevailed in the restaurant, are responsible for the death of the man, while the operators of the restaurant are considered innocent up to the court hearing.
The threat from Campylobacter
In parallel to this incident, the danger of Campylobacter bacteria, the most common cause of bacterial intestinal infections in Germany, is also an important topic. These rod -shaped bacteria can be found primarily in poultry, cattle and pigs and can get into human organisms through insufficient cooking. Campylobacter causes inflammation in the intestine, which in most cases are associated with symptoms such as diarrhea, fever and headache. Toddlers and young adults are particularly vulnerable, where these infections occur frequently, but often without symptoms. In order to protect yourself from a possible infection, it is crucial to thoroughly pack meat and boil raw milk before eating. Contact with raw poultry must not be combined with other foods that are insufficiently processed to avoid contamination. As reported by the NRW consumer center, the thorough way through meat is the best protection against Campylobacter infection.
