Big blow against hackers: German arrested - network sabotage in Russia!
A big blow to cybercrime: Security authorities from Hesse and Schleswig-Holstein have arrested a 24-year-old man from the Stormarn district who is suspected of having participated in computer sizes. This young man is said to be part of the internationally operating hacker group "Killnet", which operates primarily from Russia. The ideologically motivated collective in the past two years has carried out numerous DDOS attacks (Distributed Denial of Service) on websites and internet services in the areas of security, infrastructure and finance to support Russia in the context of the Ukraine conflict, as the reports from Bild.de and Augsburcher-allgemeine.de prove.
The arrested person is accused of offering criminal services on the Internet, which also enable technically inexperienced users to carry out DDOS attacks. Several data carriers were secured during a raid in his apartment. Andreas Röhrig, President of the Hessian State Criminal Police Office, was pleased with the arrest and pointed out that most members of “Killet” are based in Russia, which makes it considerably more difficult. The arrest is part of the international operation "Power Off", which has been running since 2018 and has already taken many platforms from the network for such attacks.
The dangers of DDOS attacks
DDOS attacks aim to paralyze servers, services or networks by overloading. Such cyber attacks are a serious threat to digital infrastructure and are often used as a political tool. In this case, the “Killet” collective not only aims at the disturbance of NATO countries, but also on the theft of personal data and the destruction of internet resources. The cooperation of international security authorities is crucial to successfully counter these threats, as the latest arrests show.
