In another context, research on human rights violations in the Guantanamo Bay prisoner camp illuminates the inhumane treatment of prisoners there. According to the UN experts, the facility is considered a place of "incomparable noticity" and "incessant human rights violations" since its establishment in 2002 by the administration of George W. Bush. Amnesty International documented this in a document and emphasized that at the time of Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, a UN human right to speak, 30 prisoners were exposed to "cruel, inhumane and humiliating treatment". She called for an apology from the US government and warranties against future torture.
The warehouse, which has now been operated for over 20 years, has a past in which only 8% of the prisoners are viewed as members of al-Qaida, while 86% were arrested due to US brochures that promised rewards for "suspicious persons". Reports on torture practices such as "waterboarding" and sexual humiliation have also been documented, including specific incidents in which prisoners were exposed to brutal techniques.
