Honey and piano: Experience culinary sounds about Advent!

On the third Sunday in Advent, December 15, 2024, the audience awaits a cultural highlight in ORF 2 with the "Matinee", which begins at 9:05 a.m. First of all, the documentary "honey - sweet passion" is broadcast, which addresses the variety of the oldest sweetener in the world. The various types of honey and the art of beekeeping in Austria and neighboring countries are shown. Anita Lackenberger goes on a journey of discovery and introduces committed beekeepers, such as: B. Katrin Piller from Wachau and Martin Kohler from Tyrol, who are characterized by their creative uses of honey. At 9:50 a.m. the documentary "Alchemy of the Piano" follows, which illuminates the different access of international pianists to their instrument.

The journey to the piano's alchemy

In "Alchemy of the Piano", the pianist Francesco Piemontesi, who is deeply moved by an unpublished recording of the composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. This discovery inspires him to explore the secrets of the piano game. Together with director Jan Schmidt-Garre, Piemontesi embarks on a trip to various internationally renowned pianists, including Maria João Pires in Spain and Stephen Kovacevich in London to learn their techniques and views of the alchemy of the piano game. He is inspired by the opera singer Ermonela Jaho to sing on the piano while the conductor Antonio Pappano shows him how to transfer the colors of the orchestra to the piano. The film examines whether there is a certain combination of these elements that make up the secret of the piano game.
