Family celebrations: dispute and love - Sönke Wortmann's new comedy!

director Sönke Wortmann (65) illuminates the complex relationships within a large family in his new comedy "The Nickname". As he announced to the German Press Agency, he does not believe that it always has to be harmonious in families. "It is possible to love each other, but not to like," explains Wortmann and thus gives a deep insight into the dynamics of family arguments. The focus of his film is the chaotic events at a family reunion in an Alpine hotel that is characterized by both celebrations and disputes. In the end, however, there will always be a feeling of togetherness and respect between the family members, says Wortmann.

insights into family life

Despite his cinematic examination of family conflicts, Wortmann has little personal experience with digital criticism. He admits that he has "never got a shitstorm" and despite today's zeitgeist, in which social media are often the focus, he is not active there. "I am not on social media," he notes and concludes that he will probably not experience a shitstorm, unless someone gets their private address. This suggests that he rather appreciates analog communication, even if he sees the conflicts that romp on the Internet as quite realistic.

his film reflects what many families experience during the holidays: love and argument at the same time. As Lippische Landes-Zeitung , this is a first-class fabric for comedies, since it shows the diversity of human interaction. You don't always have to live in harmony to appreciate relationships with each other - a message that has meaning in particular in today's time.
