40 years of Advent meeting: a success story in Hadres!

The Hadreser Advent Society experienced an impressive anniversary last weekend: the 40th anniversary of its Advent market. The celebrations included the premiere of a documentary film that was produced by chairwoman Romana Schuler and Fred Ilger and traces the founding history of the first Advent market in a Kellergasse in Lower Austria. Schuler is happy about the great encouragement and reported to the new website of the event right at the beginning of the Advent meeting on December 7th, which revealed the high interest of the visitors, as the Nön reported.

The roots of the Advent meeting

The first Advent meeting was initiated by Anna Jencsok in 1984 and was intended as a direct contribution to the promotion of regional products. With the support of the Lower Austria Education and Home and the then mayor Josef Fürnkranz, the event only offered around ten exhibitors the opportunity to present Christmas pastries, wine and craftsmanship. This original idea has developed into a popular festival over the years, which now attracts many visitors. The strict rules of Jencsok, which wanted to promote a stylish market without a fair flair, still shape the traditions, as the official website of the Advent meeting reports. For example, only white tablecloths and natural decorations are allowed to maintain the contemplative character of the Advent, as is explained on Hadres.at

The Hadreser Advent Society, which was founded in 1993, continues to pursue the goal of preserving this valuable cultural heritage. The event has gained popularity over time, and last year over 90 exhibitors offered their products in the atmospheric Kellergasse. The recently published film is not only a review of four decades full of tradition, but also a tribute to the founder Jencsok, which recently died at the age of 88. Her vision continues and will be continued by the current chairwoman Romana Schuler and her team.
