In Schwarzau in the mountains, the situation regarding the forest fire has calmed down. After over 900 emergency services that had been mobilized since Saturday, the message "Brand from" was finally announced on Monday morning, as the district fire brigade commander Josef Huber announced the NÖN. Nevertheless, a fire security guard of the local fire brigade remains active in order to track down possible embers through daily drone flights. Huber praised the excellent cooperation of all emergency services who were involved in this major event from the fire brigade to the Red Cross to the mountain rescue. "Everything worked perfectly, many thanks to everyone," he said his satisfaction with the course of use.

In parallel to the extinguishing work, there was a significant cross -border exercise on the "wet ridge" between Lower Austria and Styria, in which around 300 emergency services with firefighters, mountain rescue and police took part. This exercise should deepen the knowledge of dealing with forest fires, against the background of the upcoming second anniversary of the devastating forest fire in Hirschwang. Mayor Peter Lepkowicz emphasized that the use of tried and tested forces was crucial to learn from previous experiences and to better prepare for possible future forest fires.

The current weather conditions, which are characterized by dryness, high temperatures and reduced precipitation, put the region under pressure and endanger the water levels in rivers. The loss of vegetation due to forest fires could lead to serious erosion problems, which in particular could threaten the drinking water supply of several municipalities. Lepkowicz warns as a caution: "After 85% of all forest fires are caused by humans, the following applies all the more: fire has lost nothing in nature."
