Tragedy in Alcorcón: Fire of an electric car demands two life!

On April 2, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in an underground car park in Alcorcón, a suburb of Madrid, in which two firefighters died. According to FireWorld tried a Porsche Taycan, an electric vehicle, parked and confused the pedals. The vehicle crashed into a wall and ignited. This led to a devastating fire that resulted in a high fire load and dense smoke formation.

The fire department of Alcorcón arrived shortly after the alarm, but fought against the enormous challenges. Close building conditions of the underground car park, extreme heat and several explosions, presumably caused by burning lithium-ion batteries of the vehicle, make the extinguishing work difficult. Many people, including firefighters and residents, had to be medically treated for flue gasinhalation. A total of 14 injuries were counted, while another firefighter is in a critical condition.

reactions and investigations

Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the President of the Comunidad de Madrid, expressed her condolences and the city administration of Alcorcón decided to initiate a three -day mourning time. In the meantime, the police started the cause of the fire with the investigation. In particular, technical defects on the electric vehicle and other factors are checked.

The challenges in dealing with electric vehicles were reinforced by another incident in the same period. In Alcorcón, a five -year -old boy was found dead in a fire that resulted from an explosion in a complex of business buildings, the cause was again due to dangerous smoke development. Numerous people were evacuated here, and in total there were several injuries to complain, including children and their mother, who was taken to the hospital in a critical condition due to flue gasinhalation, such as 20minutos reported.

Special risks from lithium-ion batteries

The incidents in Alcorcón throw a light on the special dangers that emerge from electric vehicles in the fire -dangerous surroundings of underground garages. According to Feuertrutz burn e-vehicles very differently than conventional vehicles, which brings additional challenges for the fire brigade. Lithium-ion batteries tend to take special fire behavior, and mechanical defects can hardly be assumed in underground garages as the cause of the fire. Branding events in such facilities can not only lead to strong smoke, but also endanger load -bearing components.

The latest events thus illustrate the need for preventive measures and, if necessary, the revision of fire protection regulations in underground garages in which electric vehicles are parked.
