Truck accident in Villach-Land: passenger dies in a dramatic fall!

In the night of February 13, 2025, a tragic truck accident occurred on the A2 South Autobahn in the Villach-Land district. A 44-year-old Greek driver steered the vehicle towards Italy when it came to the right of the road for unexplained reasons. The passenger, a 43-year-old man from Greece, could only be recovered dead from the wreck. The helper of the volunteer fire brigade faced the challenge of saving him from the badly damaged cab that had jammed him at the pool region. The driver was saved quickly after the accident and brought to the Villach State Hospital. The Arnoldstein fire brigade had to intervene with a loading crane to lift the cab and rescue the passenger. Unfortunately it was already too late at this time to save life.

Investigations run

The police stated that the cab was badly damaged in the impact, especially on the passenger side. The driver, who could not yet be interviewed, is expected to be subjected to a further investigation. The exact causes of the accident are currently being investigated in order to obtain clarity about the circumstances that led to this fatal incident. The emergency services also reported another road user who observed the accident and quickly alerted the rescue workers.
