Großenbrode, Deutschland - On Tuesday afternoon, February 11, 2025, a 22-year-old kitesurfer from Kiel got into a critical situation on the Grossenbroder Binnensee. At 4:00 p.m., the Fehmarn water protection police and the Grossenbrode volunteer fire brigade were alerted after passers -by noticed that the water sports enthusiast threatened to drift due to a technical problem. The umbrella of his kitesurfer had crashed, causing the lines to get caught and a restart of the umbrella made it impossible. In addition, the young man lost his kiteboard, which made the return to the bank considerably more difficult, as the Lübeck police department reported.
rescue by the fire brigade
Thanks to the rapidly reacting passers -by, help was immediately provided. The fire brigade moved out and used a rubber boat to save the kitesurfer in distress. The assignment was successful and the man was able to be recovered unharmed when the rescue workers got him out of the water near the campsite Seekamp. The police then again warned water sports enthusiasts of the currently dangerous conditions in the water, especially in front of the low temperatures and the heavily reduced visibility, and strongly recommended not to go on the water alone, as news reader reported.
Fortunately, the rescue operation ended without injuries.
