Great fire in the Otto district: Fire brigade saves monument buildings in Wendlingen!

Wendlingen, Deutschland - A dramatic fire completely burned down a building in the historic Otto district in Wendlingen (Esslingen district) on the night of December 24th. The fire brigade began around 9:30 p.m., as the first smoke sign over the empty former factory building. A major fire developed from the initial smoke development that mobilized more than 180 firefighters from the region. After hours of extinguishing work, which lasted until morning, the emergency services managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the surrounding listed buildings, such as Stuttgarter News reported.

use and damage amount

The extinguishing work was dangerous due to the confusing situation, but fortunately no emergency services were injured. Initially, the damage was estimated at several million euros, later the police corrected this estimate for a high six -figure amount. The exact circumstances and the cause of the fire are so far unclear and the criminal police have initiated the investigation. A police helicopter was used to monitor the situation from the air. During the extinguishing work there were also restrictions on a nearby railway line, among others the S-Bahn line S1, such as Tagesschau reported.

The city of Wendlingen plans to develop the Otto district in a new city district where historical buildings are preserved and combined with new shops and living space. Despite the accident, Mayor Steffen Weigel is pleased that the valuable legacy remained largely undamaged. "Due to the great commitment of the fire brigade, surrounding listed buildings have not been affected," he said. The fire guard is now continued to prevent again, while the city hopes that the emergency services can go home in good time.
