Grenades from the Second World War in Hanover blown up - evacuation necessary!

In a dramatic effort in Hanover-Sahlkamp, explosive relics from the Second World War were successfully made harmless on Thursday. The emergency services, including the fire brigade, police and the Lower Saxony ordnance disposal service, were in alarm mode when 13 German bottle grenades were discovered on the site of the former Freiherr von-Fritsch barracks. These dangerous remnants could not be transported and therefore had to be blown up on site, which led to an evacuation of around 100 residents.

As early as 9:45 a.m., preparations for the demolition began, while the affected residents were asked to leave their apartments. The tension was tangible when the clock ticked. At 12:20 p.m., after successfully carrying out the explosion, the residents were finally allowed to return. During the entire mission, the evacuated citizens had childcare offers in the city nursery, where a total of 12 people were looking for.
