Roofing fire in Heiligenhaus: residents show great solidarity!

On Friday evening, January 3., 2025, there was a dramatic roof truss fire in a multi-family house on Buchenstraße in Heiligenhaus-Mitte. Around 50 fire brigade and rescue services from the cities of Ratingen and Heiligenhaus were challenged when the alarm sounded at 5:37 p.m. due to a room fire. When the first fire brigade arrived at the site, the entire apartment burned in a light, but fortunately all residents were able to flee from the building unharmed, as the Heiligenhaus fire brigade confirmed.

After the alarm, fully alarm was triggered at 5:52 p.m., and the fire brigade immediately started with a fire -fighting attack over the aerial ladder and several jet pipes. In the course of the over five hours of operation, the emergency services managed to control the fire at 6:48 p.m. The fire was completely extinguished until 8:47 p.m., but the fire brigade remained on site until 10:45 p.m. to check the burned -out attic for possible fire nests. In the following check on Saturday morning with a thermal imaging camera, no other embers were found.

The affected apartment building is uninhabitable for the time being, and the residents independently organized an alternative accommodation. The residents of Buchenstraße showed great commitment, which provided the emergency services with warm drinks and sweets. Dr. Jan Heinisch, the head of the fire brigade, expressed gratefully about the support from the neighborhood: "That was the opposite of what you see occasionally on the silver nights and thank you very much". Fire Brigade Heiligenhaus reported a professional and effective handling of the emergency, while the Local news portal TAG24 highlighted the impressive camaraderie in the community.
