Fire in the Rottenstein Justice: 50 cattle brought to safety!
In a dramatic incident, on December 10, 2024, a fire broke out at around 9:30 a.m. in the branch of the Klagenfurt prison in Rottenstein, St. Veit an der Glan. The fire was discovered on the upper floor of a stable building, and the cause is currently unknown. An attentive inmate that worked in the adjacent workshop noticed the flames and immediately informed the judicial officers, who then alerted the fire brigade. Fortunately, all 50 cattle that were located in the barn were brought outside in good time and transported to neighboring farmers. Fortunately, nobody was injured, as reported both fireworld.at and kaernten.orf.at.

The alarm led to a massive use of 10 fire departments from the district, in which 25 vehicles and 105 firefighters were mobilized. These were able to prevent the flames from attacking adjacent buildings. The State Criminal Police Office Carinthia has started the investigation to clarify the cause of the fire, whereby the Vienna forensic technology is supporting. A amount of damage is not yet known.
