New wind at the Salzburg Festival: Axel Hiller becomes a concert leader!

A new chapter for the Salzburg Festival: Axel Hiller will be the new head for "concert and media" from May 1, 2025. He follows Florian Wiegand, who takes over the management of the Munich Philharmonic. Hiller, who already worked in the Festival concert office from 2016 to 2020, brings extensive experiences from various leading positions. He is currently heading the artistic planning of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and previously at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Washington D.C. as well as at the Gustav Mahler youth orchestra, as Salzburg24 reported.

In his new role, Hiller will be responsible for planning and implementing important concert productions as well as the organization of overall scales for television and radio. Particularly noteworthy is the responsibility for the Herbert Biennale of Karajan Young Conductors Award (YCA), which plays a central role in the festival. Hiller was enthusiastic about his return to Salzburg and the opportunity to help shape the concert program under the direction of Markus Hinterhäuser. "It is a great pleasure for me to help shape the concert program of the Salzburg Festival on the side of Markus Hinterhäuser," said Hiller, who can look forward to the challenges that are connected to the renovation of the festival, such as Meindezirk.at reported.

Hiller is an excellent cultural manager and his return promises a fresh air into the renowned concert program of the Salzburg Festival. The commitment of such an experienced leader as Hiller could prove to be a great profit for the traditional event in the heart of Salzburg and is welcomed by the entire festival community. As a decisive part of the team, he will actively help shape the future of the festival and ensure that the artistic excellence, for which the festival is known, continues to exist, as well as Salzburg24 emphasized.
