Trump or Harris: Who brings Russia the greater advantage?
Moskau, Russland - The world looks banned on the upcoming US elections on November 5, while Russia is again in focus! Former President Donald Trump and the democratic candidate Kamala Harris have an exciting head-to-head race, and the Kremlin strategists follow the events with the greatest attention. In the past few days, a video has been viral, which is said to show how Haitians vote for Harris in the USA. Georgia’s State Secretary Brad Raffensperger described it as a fake, probably from the hands of Russian troll farms!
As in the 2016 and 2020 elections, Russia is accused of wanting to influence the election results. A current indictment suggests that right-wing media influencers have been provided with Talking Points by Russian state media. While a victory of Trump could appear advantageous for Russia, analysts show that reality is more complicated. Trump, who approved new sanctions against Russia after his election in 2016 and approved fatal help for Ukraine, not only awakened hopes during his first term, but also caused disappointments.
Putin's dilemma: Trump or Harris?
The official attitude of the Kremlin remains reserved. Putin joked that he supported Harris while Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made it clear that relationships between the United States and Russia are so bad that it hardly makes a difference in the Oval Office. Harris is seen as a continuation of bidding policy that continues to provide Ukraine with military support. In contrast, Trump has blamed Ukraine for the war and promises to end the conflict immediately, should he come back to power.
But reality could look different. While Trump is pursuing an impulsive policy that brings uncertainty, a Harris presidency could mean more stable foreign relationships. Experts warn that even if Trump wanted to reduce support for Ukraine, the congress plays a crucial role and public opinion is strongly behind the help of Ukraine. Moscow's geopolitical goals remain unrealistic, and the idea that Ukraine would simply dance to Putin's pipe is a dangerous illusion.
