Three years of war: political forces in Austria calls up to unity!
Villach, Österreich - On February 26, 2025, the Austrian National Council discussed intensively on the consequences of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine and its effects on national and European security. On the initiative of the NEOS, the different points of view of the political groups were discussed under the title "Three years of war in Ukraine: Cooperation is more important than ever". There was agreement that peace for Ukraine was necessary, while the opinions over the way there diverged. While the ÖVP, SPÖ, Neos and Greens emphasized the support of Ukraine and rejected talks without the involvement of Ukraine, the FPÖ advocated a more neutral attitude and demanded increased return to neutrality policy. Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg underlined the importance of a rule-based international order and warned that neutrality is not a solution in the current geopolitical situation, as was Tagesschau
The struggle for territorial integrity
Ukraine is still faced with the aim of regaining the areas conquered by Russia and at the same time securing their state sovereignty. In the past few weeks, the Ukrainian leadership has emphasized that the return of all areas occupied by Russia, including the Crimea, which has been annexed since 2014, is a fundamental condition for peace. "No contract that does not recognize us as a partner at the negotiating table is accepted," said President Selenskyj clearly. Ukraine demands military security guarantees from Western partners to deterrent before future aggression by Russia. This is done against the background that Russia continues to exist on its territorial claims and is accordingly due to negotiations without concessions, such as apa -otot holds.
The different views of dealing with the war can now also be felt at an international level. While the United States under President Donald Trump in the negotiations and the Ukraine push for concessions, the EU demands that all negotiations take place in direct involvement of Ukraine. It remains to be seen how the negotiations will develop, because the situation remains tense and the challenges for Europe require a clear and uniform reaction to developments in Ukraine.
