Dmitry Medvedev: From President to Provocateur - a long change

dmitry Medledew has traveled a long way from his time as President of Russia. At that time he stood alongside the then US President Barack Obama and explained that "the solution to many worldwide problems depends on the common will of the United States and Russia."

Medvedew's current role and provocations

This week Medvedev indicated twice in his half -official role as the Herrenkhols' mouthpiece that President Donald Trump's administration is pushing the United States and Russia in the direction of a war. He also warned of the nuclear skills of Russia after Trump announced new sanctions against Russia.

reactions to Medledew's statements

Although Medvedev, as deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, has no executive power, his provocative comments caused a sensation. On Thursday, he said on Telegram that Trump should introduce himself to the apocalyptic television series "The Walking Dead" and referred to the Soviet capacities for automatic nuclear attacks.

US reaction to nuclear threats

The US President reacted on Friday by ordering two nuclear sub-navals to be moved to the “corresponding regions”. This incident is made after Trump has set a new period for Putin to end the war in Ukraine, and thus threatened to impose US sanctions if no ceasefire was agreed. An ultimatum that is hardly taken seriously in the Kremlin.

Medledew's change over the years

Today, Medledew presents itself very differently than at the age of 42 when he became President of Russia. He was trained as a lawyer and had no connections to the security services, in contrast to the current President Vladimir Putin, a former KGB agent. Medwedew was internet staff and strived for a modernization of the Russian economy and the fight against corruption.

Medledew's presidency and their consequences

His presidency, however, was seen as a temporary solution to help Putin avoid constitutional restrictions and stay in power. This political course has had a lasting impact on the dynamics between the United States and Russia and contributes to the current tension.
