Revolutionary biomedicine: New Institute in Vienna starts!

Wien, Österreich - In Vienna, a new era is heralded in biomedical research! The research institute Aithyra, founded with the support of the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, will be under the direction of the renowned biochemist Georg Winter from April 2025. The internationally awarded scientist, who previously worked at the Cemm research center for molecular medicine, relies on innovative approaches to develop new treatment methods against cancer. Its specialty includes tailor -made molecules that target cancer proteins and thus attack tumors - a technique that has the potential to revolutionize cancer research, as science.orf reported.

aithyra will be considered the first institute of its kind in Europe, which gives artificial intelligence (AI) a central role in biomedical research. In addition to winter, AI expert Michael Bronstein will lead the technical areas of the institute. Together they pursue the ambitious goal of accelerating the scientific knowledge through the combination of AI and biomedical research. Winter emphasizes: "We want to develop completely new treatment methods for cancer and other life -threatening diseases." The institute is not only an important step for research in Austria, but is also under the screening one of the greatest private research funding in the history of the country in the amount of 150 million euros href = "https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_20250313_ots0106/oeaaw-winter-life-science-diter-aithyra instituts"> Austrian Academy of Sciences announced.

Aithyra has already started operating with the first laboratory and office space in the Marxbox at the Vienna Biocenter. The planned research building, which is to be built in cooperation with the Vienna Economic Agency by 2029, promises a further expansion of the scientific infrastructure. Insofar as Winter, Bronstein and the managing director Anita Ender work together, Aithyra will not only make an attraction for outstanding researchers, but could also enable social progress in biomedical practice.
