On May 3, 2025, Austria looks back on significant historical events that are celebrated this year. There are three central anniversaries: 80 years after the end of the Second World War, 70 years after the signing of the state contract and 30 years after the EU accession. The most important memorial events are part of the celebrations for the liberation of the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps on May 5 and 6, 1945 as well as the end of the war in Europe on May 8. In order to do justice to the historical anniversaries, ORF dedicates an extensive multimedia focus in 2025. The program comprises a total of 100 hours, including 34 new productions in ORF 2 and ORF III and 50 programs on Ö1. Live broadcasts of commemorative and festival are also part of the program. In addition, the documentary "Our Austria" in nine and the third season of "Austria - The whole History" in ORF III is presented. ORF has developed special formats for this.
