Winter is just around the corner, and that means not only frosty temperatures in Döbeln, but also an exciting attraction for young and old. The Stadtwerke are preparing to open the ice arena from November 22nd. Until December 29th, visitors can make their rounds on the site on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße and enjoy the winter atmosphere that is accompanied by a winter village.

Stadtwerk chief Gunnar Fehnle emphasized that the preparations are already in full swing. The last details for the program are pending, and the gastronomic supply is also to be ensured in a proven manner by Lars Lemke. The operator, known from the restaurant in the Bürgergarten, will eat the visitors with various dishes and drinks.

Traditional competitions and more

The exciting highlight this year will be the ice football tournament, which takes place again after a successful debut last year. Teams compete against each other in full protective equipment. The popular ice stick shooting, which will conclude on December 21, is again part of the program. Fehnle reports on a positive response from last year, especially through school classes that the arena were allowed to use for free during the day. This initiative is to be continued this year.

The ice arena has developed to an important part of the pre-Christmas season in Döbeln since its first line-up in 2013. After the event had to pause for a few years due to the coronapandemic and the energy crisis, the tradition was tied to tradition last year. The municipal utilities even left the Eisarena open until the end of the year, due to the great demand.

For everyone who wants to take part in the Eis arena, the admission prices have remained the same: ten euros for admission and borrowing skates. The number of planned events on the ice rink will also be reduced a bit this year to offer the ice skaters more space, since the train cannot be used during the events.
