Trier, Deutschland - An exciting event is imminent! On Thursday, December 12th, at 6 p.m., the scientific library invites you to a captivating book presentation. The focus is on the latest work by Marc Schoentgen entitled "1766 - The VotivalTar - L’Autel Votif". Every year, thousands of believers make a pilgrimage to Luxembourg to pray in the Mary's Dome in front of the image of grace. In 2024, the Luxembourg Marienwallfahrt, the Oktave, will celebrate an impressive anniversary of 400 years! Since 1766 the image of the "consolation of the sad" has been inextricably linked to the votival altar.

This altar is not only a religious symbol, but also a valuable piece of Luxembourg cultural asset that documents numerous historical and cultural events. In his new illustrated book, Schoentgen brings the fascinating history and the hidden beauties of the votival altar to light. With a sharp view of details, it makes the invisible visible. about the author

Marc Schoentgen, born in Luxembourg in 1969, currently lives with his wife in Perl. In addition to his work as a police officer, he heads the property protection department of the three Grand Ducal Residences. As a photographer, he made a name for himself through numerous exhibitions both in Germany and abroad. Most recently, in 2024 he designed an open-air exhibition in the city of Luxembourg in collaboration with the Luxembourg Membership Chamber. Schoentgen has already published several books, including the illustrated book awarded with the "Luxembourg Book Prize" about the Luxembourg-Nassau dynasty. For his services he was honored by his home community as "Citoyen Remarquable" and appointed "Chevalier de l’Ordre de mérite civil et militaire d’Adolphe de Nassau".
