Summer time in the EU: Why we still have to turn the clock!
In a heated dispute over the change of time in Europe, summer time on March 30, 2025 will be reintroduced, while several countries have already taken the step to abolish. Despite a proposal from 2018, which demanded the EU's abolition of the time change, the agreement is not available. At the moment, the decision remains at the Council of the EU Member States, which has not made any progress on this matter since 2019. In the middle of the numerous challenges that Brussels employ in particular, this topic seems to have been in the background. According to oe24.at due to the war also abolished the summer time and will not change the clocks next weekend.
The time change, which was originally introduced to energy saving during the oil crisis in 1973, has learned a lot of criticism over the years. But while the EU Parliament has agreed to the abolition, there is no clear schedule for the implementation. In contrast, countries such as Islan, Ireland and Great Britain have completely dispensed with a time change and stick to their standard time all year round, as timeanddate.de reports. The discussion about the time change remains a controversial topic in the EU, while the clocks will soon have to be changed again for the majority of Member States.
