Musk withdraws support for Farage: Reform UK needs new boss!
Rotherham, England, UK - Elon Musk, the Tech Mogul and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has withdrawn his support for Nigel Farage, the leader of the Populist Reform UK! The reason? A heated argument about the release of a detained activist of the extreme right who beats the waves!
On Sunday, Musk left no doubt on his platform X that he is dissatisfied with Farage. "The reform party needs a new leader. Farage does not have what it takes," he posted and thus caused excitement in the political landscape of Great Britain.
The dispute over Tommy Robinson
The trigger for this conflict was the distancing from Farage to Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson. Robinson is currently sitting an 18-month prison sentence for disregarding the court after repeating false accusations against a Syrian refugee student. Musk had incorrectly claimed that Robinson had been convicted of "the truth" about a child abuse scandal in Great Britain. But Farage made it clear: "Robinson was convicted of disregarding the court, not because he spoke against grooming gang."
Farage, who recently negotiated with Musk about possible donations for his party, reacted to the billionaire's sharp words. "Elon is a remarkable personality, but in this matter I have to contradict him," he said to X and affirmed: "Tommy Robinson is not what we need."
Musk interferes in British politics
The phrase in the relationship between Musk and Farage is particularly explosive, since Musk had previously described the UK reform as the only party that could "save Great Britain". His political statements have become more and more common in recent years since he publicly faced Donald Trump. Now he has also targeted Prime Minister Keir Strander and accused him of not holding the grooming gang into account.
The reactions on Musk’s statements are mixed. The British Minister of Health Wes Streeting described the billionaire's views as "misunderstood and certainly misinformed". A report from 2014 revealed that at least 1,400 children were sexually exploited in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, which further fueled the debate about dealing with such crimes.
The political arena in Great Britain is only more turbulent due to this conflict between Musk and Farage. While Musk continues to raise his voice, it remains to be seen how the situation will develop for reform UK and whether Farage can hold its position.
