Austria's JJ rocks the ESC final with Wasted Love in Basel!
Austria is represented by the 24-year-old singer JJ (Johannes Pietsch) at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. The artist qualified for the final round after his successful appearance in the second semi -finals. His song "Wasted Love", which was produced by Thomas Turner and Teya, shows a mixture of classical and pop with a technopart in the final. The event attracts participants from 37 countries, and Austria is one of the ten semi -finalists who made it to the final. Betting agencies see JJ in second place for the final, which will take place on Saturday in the St. Jakobshalle of Basel. The goal is a new victory for Austria after Conchita Wurst won the contest in 2014.
JJ, who was originally born in Vienna in 2001 and grew up in Dubai, returned to Austria in 2016. He received musical training at the Vienna State Opera and even performed with a soprano voice. His career picked up speed in 2021 when he reached the final of the “Starmania” casting show. The new single presented by him, "Wasted Love", has already been enthusiastically received by many fans.

Austria has had a long participant in the ESC since the Alpine Republic was there for the first time in 1957. Although many years were characterized by midfield positions, the victories of Udo Jürgens 1966 and Conchita Wurst are among the greatest success in 2014. In between, however, there were also setbacks, such as the last place in 1962 and 1988. Austria is doing everything possible to better cut after a disappointing 24th place in Malmö 2024 this year.
