Oberhausen students experience unforgettable exchange on lesbos!

Oberhausen. The Heinrich Böll comprehensive school Oberhausen recently experienced an extraordinary adventure on the Greek island of Lesbos! As part of a student exchange, ten brave students immersed themselves in the fascinating culture and the challenges of an earthquake.

After a long phase of the virtual exchange, the time had finally come: Under the direction of teacher Dana Röhl, the group traveled to the city of Mytilene. "Winning the partner school was a great success for us and offers practical experiences that cannot be replaced," said Röhl enthusiastically. With a variety of activities, including exciting excursions, the focus was on education and new friendships.

The students not only visited sites in historical sites, but also had the opportunity to discover the “Lesbos UNESCO GLOBAL GEOPARK”! Here they went hunting for free -living flamingos and learned in the earthquake simulator how they can react better to seismic vibrations. It was an impressive opportunity to learn the right behavior in such critical situations.

It was not lacking in adventures: swimming together at a pleasant 25 degrees Celsius, the exploration of the olive oil museum and the Ouzo distillery offered rich insights into the island's gastronomy. All of this was accompanied by the excited exchange among themselves - with the help of English, gestures and smart translators. "It was astonishing how quickly the nervousness evaporated and we could open up," recalls a student.

In November, the Heinrich Böll Comprehensive School will host the Greek partners-a return visit that has already sparked the anticipation for the next adventure. "This week was unforgettable and leaves us with a high degree of expectations," concludes Dana Röhl.
