But the joy of summer temperatures is only short -lived, because a drastic fall of temperature is expected from Tuesday. Meteorologist Panagiotis Giannopoulos warned that a cold air mass will pull over Greece that could bring rain and even snow. For the capital Athens, where there is currently a pleasant 27 degrees, the maximum temperature will drop to fresh 11 degrees. These extreme weather changes could also have significant consequences in northern Macedonia, where temperatures of 27 degrees have already been recorded and the risk of frost for flowering fruit trees increases.

In the region, there is an acute risk of fire due to the continuing drought, which has not lasted so long for 75 years. Open fire, such as grilling and burning garden waste, are prohibited until at least Monday to minimize the risk of fire. The authorities have announced that they are increasingly checked and patrol to prevent flames from spreading uncontrollably. The combination of high temperatures, strong wind and drought makes the weather conditions appear extremely tense. Current meteorological forecasts also indicate that snow can be expected in the next few days. The predictions state that climate change reinforces the intensity and frequency of such extreme weather events in the region.
