France checks nuclear security for European partners, says Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday that France is considering expanding the protection of his nuclear arsenal to his allies. At the same time, he warned that Europe must be ready in the event that the United States no longer stand on “our side”, especially in the context of the Ukraine Russia War.

"I decided to open the strategic debate about the protection of our allies on the European continent through our deterrent," said Macron in a live broadcast on his official social media channels. He emphasized the need that Europe
"Our nuclear deterrence protects us, it is complete, confident and French from start to finish," said Macron about the French nuclear arsenal. "This protects us much more than many of our neighbors." He added that “the decision always remains and will remain in the hands of the President of the Republic, the commander -in -chief of the armed forces.” Macron also warned that Europe "entered a new era" and that it would be "foolish" to only react to the threat of Russia as a "viewer". "The United States, our ally, have changed their position for this war, are less supportive to Ukraine and raise doubts about what will happen next," he said. "I want to believe that the United States will stay by our side, but we have to be ready if this is not the case." Although France is still committed to NATO and his partnership with the United States, it has to "do more" to strengthen its own "independence in defense and security issues", says Macron. He announced that he would invite European leaders to a meeting in Paris next week to work on a plan for a "permanent peace" that could include the use of peace troops in Ukraine "as soon as peace is signed" to prevent a new invasion of Russia. Macron's statements follow the proposals by Friedrich Merz, the likely next chancellor in Germany, the discussions with France and the United Kingdom - the two European nuclear powers - to expand the nuclear protection. Macron had already indicated this idea and explained that "if my [European] colleagues strive for greater autonomy and ability to deter you, we have to open this discussion."
On Monday, Macron expressed in an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien that "Europeans who want to deepen the dialogue with us [on the subject of nuclear deterrence] ... in the [deterrent exercises of the French armed forces] could be included." These statements fell just a few days after a critical summit with the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj and the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. A small circle of Nations is working on a plan to end the fights, which is then to be presented to the United States, explained Starmer. Macron gave in an interview with the French newspaper le figaro known that France and the United Kingdom have proposed a one -month limited ceasefire in Ukraine. France's nuclear disarmament
