Construction site crisis: Indre-ET-Loire fights with a dramatic decline!

The construction industry in Indre-ET-Loire is currently showing worrying symptoms of a serious crisis. Matthieu Crambert, the President of the Living Sector at the Fédération Française du Bâtiment (FFB) in Indre-Et-Loire, sums up the situation: "The entire machine is blocked." This statement summarizes the challenges with which the market is faced. The prices for building materials have increased significantly since 2022, while at the same time the international conditions and high interest rates tighten the situation. According to Caron Marketing, the number of newly built single -family houses in France from 139,600 in 2021 will fall to an estimated 49,300 this year - a decline in dramatic 65 percent.

This crisis particularly hit the Center-Val de Loire region, with Indre-E-Loire suffering. Crambert, who is also the managing director of the construction company Maison's Ericlor, explains: "We are 40 percent below the previous year, and that was already 30 percent less than in the previous year. This year we hope for 500 permits, but we should lie below." This worrying development not only affects the construction companies, but also on the entire labor market in the region.

The concerns of the industry

Although some entrepreneurs such as Stéphane Leclerc, the CEO of Maison's Concept in Joué-Lès-Tours, found a slight improvement in June to August, the decline in orders remains alarming. "It's going a little better," he says, "but the drastic break -in in our order book cannot be denied." These declines cause more and more construction companies to get into financial difficulties and be in spit; In the past twelve months, 1,066 bankruptcies of manufacturers of single -family houses have been reported across France, according to Altares.

In addition, this crisis results in massive layoffs. Leclerc reports that his company has shrunk from 49 to 27 employees. "A single-family building means three full salaries. If nothing changes, we lose 10,000 jobs," he warns. These shocking numbers leave questions about the stability of the entire sector and the future availability of living space in the region.

One of the challenges that holds potential homes in the country is the uncertainty in the political landscape. "The long lack of a stable government discourages people to make the greatest purchase project in their lives," explains Leclerc. The lack of a clear perspective has a negative impact on the trust of consumers. Crambert adds: "We need an environment that offers more stability. It is important that people gain trust again."

Nevertheless, there is a ray of hope on the horizon. The upcoming decline in interest rates could be a turning point for the industry. "Now could be the right time to invest," said Crambert. The price for a newly built single -family house can vary between 80,000 and one million euros, which means that many builders and buyers, the conditions should be better, may soon be able to implement their plans again.
