Border controls in NRW: 202 Unauthorized entry within 14 days!

Since September 16, 2024, the Federal Police in North Rhine-Westphalia have been carrying out temporary internal border controls at all Landsee Schengen internal borders. This measure was introduced at the order of the Federal Minister of the Interior and for Home and affects not only the borders to Belgium and the Netherlands, but also to France, Luxembourg and Denmark. The decision follows the endeavor to increase internal security and reduce irregular secondary migration.

In the first two weeks of these controls, until September 30, 2024, the federal police recorded a number of interesting findings. A total of 202 unauthorized entry were registered, with most cases on the Belgian border (152) and on the Dutch border (50). These numbers give a first impression of the current situation at the limits and the relevance of the controls carried out.

measures against illegal entry

The police not only acted in unauthorized entry, but also took measures against people who had already tried to illegally entered. About 71 people were taken on the border with Belgium to prevent their stay in Germany. This includes 67 rejections and 4 further measures to terminate the stay. On the border with the Netherlands, there were 28 people, 20 of whom were rejected and 8 of the country.

Another remarkable aspect of the controls is that 9 people with a return ban for Germany were found, 7 of them from Belgium and 2 from the Netherlands. This shows that the controls not only have a preventive effect, but also actively act against people who have already had problems with the German legal system.

The capture of 4 smugglers is also one of the arrests carried out; 3 on the border with Belgium and 1 on the border with the Netherlands. These measures are another part of the more comprehensive approach of the German security authorities to combat human smuggling and to ensure security at the limits.

As far as domestic security is concerned, these measures have been considered necessary. The Federal Government has shown that the temporarily reintroduced controls not only serve to combat illegal immigration, but also to strengthen the population's feeling of security. This is of central importance in times of increasing international tensions and challenges through migration.

The data that the federal police presented is based on a special registration service and have not yet been quality -assured. However, the focus of these controls is clearly due to the security of the citizens and the combat of illegal border crossings. For more information, reference can be made to the official press release of the Federal Police Headquarters, which provides detailed insights into the measures taken and explains the background.

These developments throw a light on the situation in the European internal borders and underline the continuing challenges in front of which the governments are facing in the region. The temporary reintroduction of controls shows that despite the general freedom of movement within the Schengen area, there is still a need for action to contribute to safety and order.

For a comprehensive view of this topic and detailed statistics, a deeper examination of the reports of the security authorities is necessary to understand the developments in this sensitive matter and to find the right balance between security and freedom of movement.
