Belgium convicted: Millions of compensation for kidnapped mixed breed children!
Brüssel, Belgien - A court in Brussels convicted Belgium for the systematic kidnapping of mixed mixture children during the colonial era and classified as a crime against humanity! This groundbreaking decision, which was announced on Monday, obliges the Belgian state to pay 250,000 euros ($ 267,000) to five women who were kidnapped as children from the Belgian Congo at the time. The plaintiffs, who are between 70 and 80 years old, fought for justice for years and are now overjoyed through the outcome of the procedure.
The five women, including Monique Bitu Bingi, were part of a shocking practice in which between 5,000 and 20,000 mixed mixture children were separated from their mothers and often sent to Belgium for adoption. These brutal kidnapping took place between 1948 and 1961 when the Belgian colonial authorities believed that these children threatened white superiority. "We were uprooted, our childhood, our names and our identity were stolen to us," complained Lea Tavares Mujinga, one of the applicants.
a historical judgment
The decision of the Court of Appeal represents a historical precedent that illuminates the dark history of Belgian colonial rule. The applicants had already filed a lawsuit in 2020 after a subordinate court in 2021 rejected their claims. However, the appellant now recognized the responsibility of the state and demanded compensation for the moral damage that women suffered from the loss of their family ties. "I am very happy that justice has finally happened to us," said Bitu Bingi after the verdict.
The Belgian government passed a resolution in 2018 that recognizes the targeted segregation and kidnapping of mixed children, but there was no official excuse for the crimes. Experts warn that the decision of the court could have far -reaching consequences for other European countries that committed similar crimes during the colonial period. "We are ready and confident that we can enforce this judgment immediately, even if Belgium may make an appeal," added Nicolas, one of the applicants' lawyers.
