Trump threatens Iran: Military ready for massive escalation!

Teheran, Iran - President Donald Trump has tightened his course to Iran and threatens military consequences if Tehran does not stop his nuclear program. "If it requires a military operation, we will use the military. Israel will of course be a leader," said Trump in a current speech. However, there were no concrete schedule for military intervention. The president emphasizes that Iran should not have nuclear weapons under any circumstances. This escalation happens in the context of ongoing conversations between Washington and Tehran, which are to be continued on Saturday. Trump said that the course of the talks could be good or bad and warned: "If they fail, Iran floats in great danger," said the president.

The meeting is characterized by Iran as an "indirect conversations" on a high level in the Sultanate Oman. In the past, Iran itself has emphasized that his nuclear program only pursues civilian purposes. In view of the one -sided termination of the 2015 international nuclear agreement by the United States, however, the allegations of the western states against Tehran are increasing to strive for nuclear weapons. Since the United States' exit from the Agreement in 2018, Iran has rejected the requirements specified there. The international community, including the EU and the UN, was concerned about the nuclear latency of Iran and demanded improved controls.

The nuclear deal in the context of the escalation

The International Nuclear Agreement, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was signed in Vienna in July 2015 and was a diplomatic success that was not permanent. Iran reduced its nuclear activities in exchange for gradual abolition of economic sanctions. However, the return of the US sanctions under Trump in May 2018 led to a reduction in investments and general protests in Iran. Since 2019, Iran has declared that it no longer felt bound to the restrictions of the agreement, which caused further tensions.

In addition to the direct disputes, Trump's concern also focuses on the Hashd-Al-Schaabi-Milizen in Iraq supported by Iran. This merger, once an ally of the United States in the fight against IS, is now a new threat. Trump recently sent aircraft carriers and bombers to the region, while the Pentagon emphasizes the danger from these groups. However, experts doubt that Hashd al-Schaabi would attack US units due to the possible consequences of such an attack.

militia and geopolitical tensions

The Haschd al-Schaabi militias, which were founded in 2014 to fight IS, have up to 120,000 members and have considerable influence in Iraq. The British General Christopher Ghika, deputy commander of the anti-IS coalition, has emphasized that his troops will continuously observe the militias and react if necessary. At the same time, there are concerns that elements within the Hashd al-Schaabi, such as the Kataib Hisbollah, could act in the event of a conflict on the Tehran.

In view of the tense geopolitical situation, the future of international surveillance measures remains uncertain. While both sides show willingness to talk, the risks of a further escalation are clearly visible, especially in view of the military movements of the United States and the sometimes autonomous actions of the military groups in Iraq. These developments could further destabilize the region and have a lasting impact on the dynamics between the USA and Iran.
