Pesticide finds in mueslis: Consumers face hidden sugar!
Oberösterreich, Österreich - The Chamber of Labor (AK) Upper Austria has published alarming results from a test of 14 fruits. Pesticides were found in several products, including a pesticide that is forbidden in the EU and possibly harmful to health. This pesticide is associated with carcinogenic and reproductive effects. In a test package, consumer advocates found five different pesticides. However, all discovered pesticide values were significantly below the permitted limit values, which, according to the AK, indicates that there is no direct health risk. Particularly positive: all organic mueslis proved to be pesticide-free, as well as on ooe.werkammer.at
Another big topic in the test was the sugar content in the mueslis. The consumer protectors found that up to a third of the muesli consisted of sugar in some muesli, although this was not explicitly shown in the list of ingredients as sugar or glucose syrup. The sweetness comes mainly from the dried fruits, and four products in the test already exceeded the daily sugar limits recommended by the WHO with a portion of 50 grams. The DM Bio Fruits muesli had the highest fruit content with 50 percent, which in turn resulted in a high sugar content. In terms of price, the brands in the test were between 1.23 and 6.70 euros for 500 grams. Interestingly, the price was not a reliable indicator of the pesticide content, which emphasizes the test results on In summary, the test shows that many fruits are a nutrient -rich source, but can also recover unexpected risks, especially with regard to pesticides and hidden sugar, which often results from the dried fruit it contains.
