Austrians trust EU more than its own government - new survey result!

A current survey shows a remarkable trust between EU citizens in the European Union: 51 percent of the population of the Union, the highest value since 2007. Austria is on average the EU, but support for the euro is lower than in many other countries. According to the survey carried out in October and November, 74 percent of Union citizens are for a community currency, whereas only 73 percent of Austrians support the euro. This is the second lowest value in the euro zone, only Croatia lies below, where the support has only existed since last year, as vienna.at reports.

economic situation of the EU

Trust in the EU goes hand in hand with the economic expectations. According to Statista , the forecasts for the growth of gross domestic product (BIP) show positive tendencies in the EU countries. In 2023, many member states recorded stable economic growth, which contributes to an optimistic mood among the citizens. Nevertheless, inflation remains a major problem in Austria and the entire EU, while the migration and war in Ukraine are still perceived as the greatest challenges.

In the question of a common defense and security system, 79 percent of EU citizens support this idea, although approval in Austria is somewhat below. According to the current survey, the population in Austria perceives migration as an urgent topic, with 37 percent that advocate this, while security policy interests dominate in other EU countries. The European Union is therefore faced with the challenge of living up the different priorities of its Member States, which could affect future cooperation and integration.
