Coalition crisis in Austria: FPÖ and ÖVP are fighting for the ministerial post!
Wien, Österreich - The coalition negotiations between the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) were re -recorded after violent differences. According to Kleine Zeitung had previously been interrupted due to discrepancies, in particular with regard to the distribution of department. The party leader Herbert Kickl (FPÖ) and Christian Stocker (ÖVP) met on Friday with Federal President Alexander van der Bellen to talk to the differences from the world. In the future, the negotiations will take place increasingly at the executive level and within control groups.
protocols show deeper disagreements
The published protocols from the talks show that the disagreement is also significant within the subgroups. The main dispute is European policy, in which the ÖVP demands a clear commitment to the EU from the FPÖ. In addition, the FPÖ does not want EU flags on official buildings and even questions asylum law in asylum policy. While the FPÖ calls for stronger measures at the outer border, there are doubts about the unity of dealing with asylum seekers. There are also conflicts in the area of the inside, since both parties claim the ministry for themselves and the FPÖ wants to abolish the crisis security law.
In addition, the FPÖ wants to delete the CO2 prize and calls for changes in the military service regulation and financial compensation for the effects of the coronavirus measures. The FPÖ's financial demands, which are voted as intolerable by the ÖVP, are particularly disputed. This includes the abolition of the tax deductibility of church contributions and the property tax exemption for church buildings. According to the FPÖ, the deletion of the deductibility could bring 155 million euros annually, which should increase additional tensions between the two parties.
