Catheter treatment: New glimmer of hope for severe strokes!
New hope for stroke patients: International research seems to confirm the effectiveness of catheters therapy in severe strokes. A team under the direction of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) found in the so-called tension study that catheter treatment can be useful not only for patients with mild to medium strokes, but also for those with more difficult forms. In this study, which was funded by the EU with six million euros, 20 percent of the patients could be died or prevented a need for care, as was published in the journal The Lancet.
The tension study illuminates that the treatment method can also be of crucial importance for such patients, in which only drug standard therapy has been considered. The first evaluation shows that after the therapy, around 31 percent of the patients were self -employed 90 days later, while the comparison group was only 13 percent. In addition, mortality in the group with catheter treatment was reduced by 11 percent, which makes the results of this therapy extremely significant.
