Disaster in Zwentendorf: Dammbruch meets hundreds of families!
After the devastating dam break on the Perschling in Zwentendorf, the NEOS demand more support for the citizens affected by the flood. The municipal councilor Sabine Pengl initiates a petition to achieve comprehensive compensation for the over 400 affected households. According to Pengl's statements, politics failed when dealing with the security of the dam, which led to this catastrophe that has withdrawn the livelihood of many people. "It is a hypocrisy when politicians walk through the flood areas in rubber boots while the infrastructure is completely destroyed," said Pengl critically. Many affected people have no access to drinking water or hot water, and the municipal infrastructure, according to Pengl, has not been functional for weeks, such as "https://www.meinbezirk.at/tulln/c-lokales/neos-wentendorf-fetition-fuer-Hochwasserapper_a7050119" reported.
EU initiatives to improve infrastructure
At the same time, the European Parliament has passed new regulations that aim to reduce CO2 emissions in traffic and to promote sustainable alternatives, especially in shipping traffic. From 2026 along the main traffic axes of the EU, every 60 kilometers of charging stations for electric cars are to be installed, while trucks and buses should be given the opportunity to charge every 120 kilometers. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 % compared to 1990 by 2030. The EU deputies underlined that the use of sustainable and renewable energies will not only contribute to decarbonization, but also increases the quality of life of the citizens, as on Europarl.europa.euIn addition, ships that are responsible for around 90 % of CO2 emissions in sea traffic must gradually reduce their greenhouse gases by 2025. These new regulations are part of a larger legislative package that aims to improve the transport infrastructure in the EU from an ecological point of view and to promote the use of more environmentally friendly fuels. From 2034, at least 2 % of the fuels used should also be of renewable origin.
