Österreich - On April 4, 2025, the Agricultural Committee again deals with the marking of origin of food and animal husbandry marking. This results from the current initiatives in the context of a "freedom of measures against EU bureaucracy", which is particularly demanded by the FPÖ. According to OTS are in the agenda that are both positive as well as critical aspects of the Agricultural policy illuminated.

The Greens have submitted several applications to ensure fair producers: internal prices and increase transparency in food production. Among other things, they call for a comprehensive identification of origin of food in the catering trade and a five -stage animal husbandry marking for animal products. The FPÖ is clearly behind the demand for a package of measures that should strengthen domestic agriculture and maintain nutritional security. It rejects the Mercosur Agreement and calls for the reversal of the EU Renaturungs and the EU declaration regulations. The aim is to take into account the needs of domestic businesses in the national implementation of the common agricultural policy (GAP). In general, the reduction in bureaucracy is sought to increase competitiveness.

In addition, topics such as the generation change in agriculture and the need for a well -equipped flood protection are addressed.

origin and animal husbandry marking

The mandatory identification for meat, milk and eggs in shared catering that has been in force since 2023 is to be considered as the first step towards more transparency in food production. From September 1, 2025, this label is to be extended to the entire gastronomy. This is supported by 85 percent of consumers who value origin and regionality, according to the Greens. The new five -stage animal husbandry marking is intended to help improve the standards in animal husbandry and is developed with the consent of the value chain and relevant organizations.

The gross value added (BWS) of agriculture is considered critical, since the agricultural sector in 2020 contributed only 1.3 percent to GDP of the EU. Nevertheless, agriculture is an important economic factor: in the EU, over 9 million people were employed in agriculture in 2019, which underlines the social and economic relevance of the sector, such as Europarl reported.
