EU plans a decisive step towards supplying drugs in Europe!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - On March 11, 2025, the EU Commission in Strasbourg will present a decisive proposal to improve the supply of drugs in Europe, a central concern of the social democratic faction. Günther Sidl, SPÖ-EU MP, describes this as an important step in the right direction: "We have not only seen in pandemic that Europe is far from real security of care. The lack of children's antibiotics and other medicinal products have also shown urgent need for action," he explains. SIDL calls for strengthening the role of the EU in health care and a complete access to affordable medicines, since the current challenges are serious. According to APA-OTS to reduce its dependency on other countries and drive their own pharmaceutical production.
At the same time, the EU countries have decided to reform the electricity and gas market, which is intended to advance both the energy transition and increase security of supply. Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice President of the EU Commission, welcomes this reform: "With this renewed framework, European households and companies will benefit from more security, affordability and transparency on the European energy markets." This reform enables Member States to restrict imports of pipeline gas and LNG from countries such as Russia and Belarus, which is in line with the repowering goals. In addition, the reform creates protective measures for consumers and promotes a much larger selection of energy contracts, such as Europa.eu reported.
The reform will also support the use of renewable energies and ensure that consumers are protected against price surprises. Special regulations in particular should be made for vulnerable groups in order to avoid interruptions in supply. This not only creates improved security of supply, but also a fair competitive landscape for companies and households. By 2026, these reforms are expected to transform the European energy system in such a way that lower and more stable prices for electricity and gas become standard.
