China builds bridges: Ministerial meeting for global civilization dialogue

Peking, China - An important ministerial meeting for the Global Civilizations Dialogue took place on July 10th and 11th, 2025 in Beijing. China, under the direction of President XI Jinping, presented the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), which aims to bridge differences and promote personal exchange between civilizations in order to create a more integrative international community. Over 600 guests from 140 countries took part in the meeting, which took place under the motto "The diversity of human civilizations for world peace and development". XI Jinping, which launched the GCI 2023, explained that the exchange and mutual learning are essential for the prosperity of civilizations to overcome conflicts.

In a congratulatory letter, XI emphasized the need to overcome alienation through exchange. He expressed hope that the participants of the meeting will have deep discussions and contribute to the promotion of understanding and friendship between the peoples. The GCI is the third initiative of this kind after the Global Development Initiative (2021) and the Global Security Initiative (2022) have been presented. Cai Qi, member of the political office of the China Communist Party, pointed out that the GCI is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture. China has also set up multilateral exchange platforms to promote civilization exchange. The CGTN survey showed that such an exchange is considered decisive for progress and peace.

international support and commitment

The first international day of dialogue between civilizations was celebrated on June 10 and found support for over 80 countries. This date, which was determined by the UN General Assembly, falls into a time of growing global tensions and underlines the urgency of the dialogue in today's world.

At this historical meeting, President XI Jinping announced that China was willing to work with other countries to realize a global network for dialogue and cooperation between civilizations. China has lifted the visa light for 47 countries and the transit obligation for 55 countries to facilitate the exchange. This shows China's commitment to realize the GCI and to expand the space for international cooperation.

cultural diplomacy and EU engagement

The EU also promotes intercultural dialogue and diversity through its international relationships. According to EU policy, cultural cooperation is considered an important instrument to promote peace and prevent radicalization. Leaderships and partner countries, including China, benefit from the support of the EU in the field of cultural forms of expression.

The new European Agenda for Culture in 2018 ensures that cultural aspects are incorporated into trade negotiations. The EU has invested EUR 300 million in cultural partnerships and plans to further strengthen its strategy for international cultural relationships. China's collaboration with the EU takes place as part of a high -ranking international dialogue that emphasizes the values of human dignity and human rights.

Overall, the Global Civilizations Dialogue shows that the need for intercultural exchange and cooperation is not only a question of global peace, but is also a way to bring civilizations closer and celebrate their diversity. Initiatives such as the GCI and the cultural programs of the EU illustrate that education, dialogue and cultural contacts are fundamental building blocks for a common future.
