Audi stops all deliveries to the USA - tariffs from Trump!
USA - Audi initially hired the delivery of vehicles to the USA due to the newly introduced tariffs of US President Donald Trump. In a letter to the dealers, company spokeswoman confirmed that all vehicles that came to the USA after April 2 and will not be handed over to the dealers for the time being. Dealers must now concentrate on reducing their inventory, reports OE24 .
Audi currently has over 37,000 cars in stock in the United States, which is sufficient for about two months. It is worth noting that Audi does not have its own production facility in the USA and is dependent on import. The US bestseller Q5 is manufactured in the Audi plant in Mexico, while other models come from Germany, Hungary and Slovakia. The parent company Volkswagen has also informed US retailers about possible additional costs that could result from the customs increases. The delivery of vehicles by train from Mexico and US ports was temporarily stopped to react to the new conditions.
new customs regulations in the USA
From April 3, a volume of 25 % will apply to auto imports to the USA in addition to the existing taxes of 2.5 %. This regulation is part of Trump's strategy to strengthen the United States as a production site and to reduce trade deficits. From May, 150 categories of auto parts are also affected by the new customs surcharge, which could significantly increase the costs for imported vehicles and their parts. According to Tagesschau , almost half of the vehicles sold in the USA are imported, which could increase the effects of the tariffs on both the dealers and consumers.
The decision of Audi is a direct result of Trump's political measures, which also criticizes the high EU tariffs on US cars. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has already regretted regret about the introduction of these tariffs and emphasized the negative effects on companies and consumers. Hildegard Müller, President of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), describes the tariff as a fatal signal for free trade and calls for negotiations between the United States and the EU. The Kiel Institute for the global economy estimates that the short -term effects on the German gross domestic product (GDP) could be about 0.18 %.
Audi and the future in the USA
The situation presents Audi with great challenges because they not only have to deal with overhang on vehicles, but also the changing framework conditions of international trade. The decision to stop all vehicle deliveries could have long -term effects on Audi's market position in the USA. Not only the dealers, but also consumers have to adapt to an uncertain pricing, which is to be specified by mid -April.
In the overall view, German automobile manufacturers, including Audi, have to adapt to a rapidly changing trading environment, while at the same time keeping an eye on the interests of their customers and dealers. The pressure on the automotive industry could continue to increase as foreign policy pressure from the strategic use of tariffs, as predicted by experts. The coming months could be decisive for how the situation will develop and what measures the companies will take to face the new challenges.Details | |
