Agrana stops sugar production in Leopoldsdorf and Hrušovany!

Leopoldsdorf im Marchfeld, Österreich - The renowned Agrana group, known for products such as "Wiener Zucker", has announced a far-reaching decision today that concerns the closure of their sugar factories in Leopoldsdorf, Austria, and Hrušovany, the Czech Republic. Sugar production at these locations is set with immediate effect, whereby the entire domestic sugar production will be concentrated at the Tulln location in the future. This is part of a strategic realignment that aims to secure competitiveness and stability of sugar production in Austria. "The decision was difficult but necessary," said Stephan Büttner, the CEO of Agrana, for this step, as well as Markets.businessinsider.com reported.

A total of around 270 employees are affected by these closures, including about 120 in Leopoldsdorf and 150 in Hrušovany. However, Agrana has launched extensive support measures to help the employees concerned. This includes retraining, qualification programs and the possibility of working at other Agrana locations, as well as individual severance payments and advice on professional reorientation. The closures were decided due to increasing production costs, falling sugar consumption in the EU and increasingly strict regulations.

long -term plans and support for employees

The closure is not only a step towards stabilization, but also to concentrate on the Austrian market, whereby the Leopoldsdorf location remains as a future logistics hub. Here sugar is to be stored and packed. Agrana also plans to continue to use the 70 hectare area of the work economically, as can be seen from the message. Büttner emphasizes: "We will concentrate on the Austrian market with Austrian sugar and thus also strengthen responsibility towards our domestic beet farmers". This clear orientation is intended to ensure that sugar production in Austria will continue to exist in the future, reports 5min.at .
