According to 5min.at try to actively reduce their garbage. Among the 1,000 respondents who are between 14 and 75, a third states to pay attention to regional and seasonal products. Despite these efforts, around 1.2 million tons of food waste in Austria still reach the landfills annually - that is over 130 kilograms per person.
environmental protection behavior of the Austrians
In the area of energy, six out of ten surveyed electricity saves, while more than half adapt their heating habits to reduce consumption. On the other hand, the answers in the transport area show that Austrians have less inclination to reduce their air trips and car rides - only around 27 and 26 percent say that they deliberately do without these options. Women are strikingly involved in environmental protection than men: 70 percent of women still use edible foods after the best before date, while it is only 62 percent in men. This data is also reflected in the use of second-hand textiles, where 23 percent of women, but only 12 percent of men, keep an eye on sustainability.
In addition, the survey results show that older people rely heavily on environmental protection-78 percent of the over 70s observe their purchases, while only 37 percent of the under 20 year olds are the case. Older generations pay particular attention to the recycling of electrical appliances: 42 percent over 70 years try to repair defective devices, while the young generation is only 19 percent. These differences in environmental protection behavior show that younger people are more willing to do without meat consumption in order to reduce their ecological footprint. This is contrasting to the "baby boomers", of which only six percent are willing to bring similar victims. The survey results are a clear call to the action in all age groups in order to actively counter the challenges of climate change, as well as linguee.de
