Mountains of garbage on public holidays: This is how Energie AG copes with the challenge!

For Christmas, the amounts of garbage in the households increase considerably, especially in boxes and gift packaging. According to orf.at , these additional quantities are less a problem for waste disposal, since they are compressed in the pressing car. However, the disposal of residual waste and waste glass is much more difficult, the quantities of which increase by up to 30 percent. During the Christmas season, the garbage disposal is even used on weekends to meet the increased volume. Thomas Kriegner-Gruss, Managing Director of Energie AG Oberösterreich Umwelt Service GmbH, also emphasizes the importance of waste separation: Especially when it comes to wrapping paper, it is particularly important to ensure whether it is plastic or glittering, since such materials belong in residual waste.

waste disposal in the crisis situation

The Energie AG Environment Service processes around 1.5 million tons of waste every year. Of these, 630,000 tons of Wels and Lenzing are used thermally, which leads to the production of district heating and electricity for the regional network. This shows how important waste management is not only for disposal, but also for energy generation, especially in challenging times such as corona pandemic, such as of Energie AG Upper Austria reported. The company has taken measures to ensure reliable waste disposal even during crises and to react appropriately to the different waste flows.

The current situation underlines the importance of a well -functioning waste management, especially in stressful situations, while the practice of waste separation and resource -friendly recycling are promoted at the same time. The responsible handling of waste remains crucial for sustainability in the region.
