Cuba island without electricity: government is fighting constant blackouts!
Kuba - The situation in Cuba remains dramatic! On Friday evening at 8:15 p.m. local time, the socialist country experienced a nationwide power failure that is due to a fault in a substation. There have been massive problems with the power supply for weeks. Cuba currently only produces around 200 megawatts of electricity, while normal needs are at least 3,000 megawatts. Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz said that a quick restoration of electricity was being worked on. However, there have been several similar incidents in the past few months that increase the energy crisis in the country. According to the government, the cause of the repeated failures is partly due to the US trade embargo in the USA.
infrastructure in poor condition
The old and ailing infrastructure is one of the main causes for the frequent blackouts. The state provider UNE often does not manage to meet the need, which means that many people have to do without electricity for hours even in normal times. These recurring difficulties have developed into part of the everyday life of the population, the emergency repairs are the order of the day, since numerous power plants have to go off the net again and again in order to be optimized. The last far -reaching failure added the already precarious situation to further stress.
In another part of the North Atlantic area, an innovative tidal power plant was recently put into operation that gains environmentally friendly energy from the sea. As Golem.de can generate this power plant 1.2 Megawatt electricity and offers a sustainable solution for the Energy supply on the Faroe Islands. While Cuba is fighting with serious power outages, such developments show how green technologies can help to overcome the energy crisis and to secure access to reliable electricity.
