Parking demo in Biberach: dealer alarmed before Christmas business!

On Saturday, December 14th, the activists of Fridays for Future Biberach, the BUND and Grandomas for Future are planning a special demonstration on the western marketplace from 12 noon to 3 p.m. They are committed to a change in the air conditioning and dream of a car -free, green marketplace that belongs to the citizens. Carolin Schäfer, part of the organization team, emphasizes: "The heart of our city should be a place where citizens of all generations can meet, exchange and feel good." This movement aims to transform parking spaces into social meeting points and to combat the impending climate crisis through a sustainable traffic concept.

While the organizers rely on strong civic engagement and invite you to a sociable exchange with punch and pastries, local retail is not very enthusiastic about the plans. Günter Warth, FDP City Councilor and retailer, expressed his concerns at the municipal council meeting: "On a pre-Christmas Saturday, parking spaces are blocked. The retailers, the weekly market and the Christkindles market suffer from this." According to Warth, it is incomprehensible that the regulatory office approved such a meeting on such an important day. Mayor Norbert Zeidler confirmed that despite the negative impact on retail, no other regulation could be found, since the protest event must take place directly on the market square.
