New chief strategy is debut at Globus - what does that mean for the future?
globus, the trading company based in Saarland, is currently facing significant changes within its corporate structure. The loss of several branches is accompanied by the new occupation of a key position in the non-food area. Andreas Obenauer, former manager at Kaufland and most recently at M-Prize in Austria, becomes the new head of this area and will take up his position on March 1st. This position has been vacant since mid -2024 after Sven Möller left the company. Obenauer is directly subordinate to the managing director Stephanie Lotter, who is responsible for the purchasing, range management, marketing and product management departments.
The change comes at a time when globe recently sold four of his department store to Kaufland. This decision was made due to economic difficulties at the locations concerned, which required renovation costs of up to 30 million euros. Before the sale, Globus operated a total of 65 departments and employs around 20,000 people without taking into account hardware stores and foreign markets.
sale of branches to Kaufland
A total of five branches, including locations in Bedburg, Chemnitz, Essen, Neubrandenburg and Wesel, are affected by the sale. The Bundeskartellamt has already noted that the sale still has to be approved. According to reports, the customer acceptance of the globe sales concept was lower than expected, which led to this measure. Despite the sale, however, it was assured that all jobs were retained.
Kaufland, with over 770 markets and 90,000 employees, do not operate butchers, bakeries or self -service restaurants, which could have potential effects on the workforce of the transferred branches. Previously, Globus employees made various attempts to prevent sales through signature actions and petitions, but without success. In the city of Neubrandenburg, the sale to Kaufland was prevented by the Federal Cartel Office due to concerns about market control. Globus plans to remain present in the Neubrandenburg market and has conversations on the restructuring, such as "https://www.saarbruecker-zeitung.de/saarland/ex-kaufland-manager-zu-globus-nachel_aid-12795495"> Saarbrücker Zeitung reported.
In summary, it can be said that the upcoming changes in globe are characterized by both internal restructuring and the sale of branches. While the company adapts its strategic orientation, it remains to be seen how these changes will affect further development in retail, especially since Globus only took over some houses of the insolvent chain of department stores in April 2021, which increased the number of locations from 49 to 65For further information on the locations concerned and the background of the sale see the article on t-online.de .
