Gössl in bankruptcy: 20,000 traditional costume items in the online auction frenzy!

Bergheim, Österreich - The traditional brand Gössl, known for its high -quality costumes, reported bankruptcy in December 2024. This news caused excitement in the fashion world, especially since it became known in February 2025 that there is no rescue for "Gössl GmbH". However, while "Gössl Gwand GmbH" can continue and a renovation plan has been created, several branches in Villach, Gmunden and Altenmarkt must be closed permanently. In the future, all corporate areas will be bundled under one roof, which includes both the design and the sale. These measures are part of the efforts to put the traditional company back on their feet after bankruptcy.

As part of the bankruptcy proceedings, 20,000 articles are auctioned, including dirndls, stylish lederhosen, costume batteries, shoes, accessories as well as sports equipment such as ice sticks and ski equipment. The first auction will take place on March 30, 2025 from 2:30 p.m., and around 2,200 posts can already be viewed online - however, the cataloging of the remaining articles is still underway. According to the current sales statistics, the most expensive leather pants have now been offered to 1,000 euros, the starting price was 280 euros. This campaign is carried out by the Austrian Aurena auction house, and the creditors have approved the renovation plan so that they receive a quota of 20 percent.

renovation measures and the future outlook

The manufacturer activities that were previously carried out by "Gössl GmbH" are now transferred to "Gössl Gwand GmbH", which was previously responsible for trading. After the renovation, around 100 employees should work for Gössl, with sales of around twelve million euros. The company, which was founded in 1947 and is managed by Maximilian Gössl in the third generation, is the market leader in the premium and luxury segment and has a total of around 30 locations in Austria and southern Germany.

The auction of many high -class costumes is a sign of the changes in the company and is intended to help liquidate the estimated 20,000 articles. Premium dirndl with names such as "happiness", "dance with me" and "let flowers speak" are particularly popular. This comprehensive liquidation measure shows the challenges that not only Gössl, but many players are in fashion retail. Current reports, such as the insolvency report of financial analysts, indicate a worrying development in retail: More and more companies have to register bankruptcy, and a decline in sales is being recorded in particular in the fashion segment.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, the experts found a decline in large insolvencies, but an overall trend is reflected in the years. The high number of bankruptcies in fashion retail trade indicates an urgent need for action in order to change and improve the economic structures sustainably. Especially sales in the middle to low price segment are currently only 40 to 60 percent of the previous year's level, which exacerbates the challenges. The need for fundamental changes in fashion retail could be underlined by the development of the Gössl auctions.
