Energy label: Hessian control ensures more transparency and saving!
On January 10, 2025, the Hessian authorities reported on the results of a comprehensive control of the energy labels on household appliances in retail. The review by the Hessian Eich Directorate showed that the energy label mainly provides correct information about energy efficiency. The complaint rate was only 2.1 percent, with mainly incorrect or missing labels. A total of more than 6,500 products, including washing machines, ovens and light sources, were checked.
The energy label is checked regularly in the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Living. Energy Minister Kaweh Mansori emphasized the importance of the energy label for purchase decisions in times of high energy prices. In 2020, around 335 TWh of electricity could be saved in the EU due to the energy label and ecodesign regulations. The energy labels enable consumers to easily compare the energy efficiency of various products and thus save energy and costs.
important knowledge from the review
It should be emphasized that a QR code on the labels enables direct access to the European product database for energy labels. The aim of the energy identification is to create transparency about the energy efficiency of a product. The system distinguishes between the efficiency classes, with the letter G the lowest and letter A is the highest efficiency class. A reform of the label system in March 2021 excluded former “+” categories to improve the comprehensibility. The equalization of the calibration regularly monitors the implementation of this change.
In a separate control, it was found in Hesse that 147 dealers were checked a total of 17,715 products with regard to labeling. Here, too, the complaint ratio was 2 percent, which corresponded to 351 products that had defects. Economic and Energy Minister Tarek Al-Wazir emphasized the relevance of the energy label for consumers. 48 businesses have initiated voluntary measures due to the control or resolved defects immediately, in two cases an administrative offense procedure was initiated due to numerous defects. This nationwide campaign checked a total of 73,608 products, of which 2,024 (2.7 percent) were objected to, which represents a decline in the complaint rate compared to the last action five years ago.
In addition, it was found that frequent defects occurred in particular for product groups, the energy label of which was recently changed and the still outdated markings had. Despite the difficulties of panda miebe, the trade strives to provide consumers comprehensively about energy efficiency, which is promoted through various measures.
