Future of the town center: NEOS demands creative solutions for communities!
In an urgent appeal, the Neos party leadership addressed the urgent problems of many communities in Austria. Led by state spokeswoman Indra Collini, the challenges were made aware of the challenges at a press conference in St. Pölten caused by empty community coffers and dying town centers. "For example, you can work together for mobility or leisure projects," Collini demanded to counteract the impending financial abyss. Increased cooperation between the municipalities is necessary so that important infrastructure projects could be realized more easily, such as creating a primary care center, Collini continues. The call for a "will to design" illustrates the urgency to find innovative solutions for local development and revive the stagnating places, as can be seen in the report of noe.orf
design of the town center in focus
Special attention was also paid to the significant role of the town center, which, according to Collini, is often in danger through “future -proof local politics in recent years”. The city of Klosterneuburg, represented by the Neos City Councilor Clemens Ableidinger, emphasizes the need for liveliness and attractiveness in order to actively shape these centers. As part of this discussion, the existing challenge of the vacancy in similar cities was also pointed out. For example, the city of Villmar in Germany shows, with 43 unused houses in a place of 7,000 inhabitants, that the problem of vacancy is not an isolated case. Magdalena Leyser-Droste, architect of the Institute for State and Urban Development Research, explained in her lecture in Vienna the general tendencies that shape the appearance of many small cities, whereby the strengths and weaknesses in the town center are equally visible as in the report of derStandard.at is explained.
The upcoming municipal elections on January 26 will not only be decisive for NEOS, but also for the future of the town centers. With over 300 candidates, the party is aiming to move into the local council in 52 out of 568 possible communities. This could have a significant impact on the design of the local infrastructure and the revival of the local cores.
